ZTE_IConic_phabletZTE unveils the Iconic Phablet at CES. The word phablet while despised by many is now, officially a thing. The term was coined not so long ago around the time super large smart phones began appearing in the market. The term attempts to describe a tablet sized phone as early on the concept of a 5 inch plus phone was absurd…just look at us now! Phablets are everywhere and nearly every company is producing something similar. ZTE however just went ahead and solidified the terminology by using it to name their new Iconic. World, meet the Iconic Phablet!

Today ZTE announced the Iconic Phablet and while it carries with it a rather controversial name, this mid range device will be the oversized smart phone budget minded end users look for. The Iconic Phablet while rather familiar in size and shape seems to get a bit of its design language from the companies recently announced Grand S II. The new Phablet starts as most phablets do with a 5.7 inch touch screen that offers up a 720p HD resolution. Internally the device is said to come packing a dual core Qualcomm made Snapdragon chipset alongside 1 GB of RAM and a rather disappointing 8 GB of internal storage. Around back of the Iconic Phablet is an 8 mega pixel camera with LED flash while a front facing 1 mega pixel camera is available for all your self portrait needs. Additionally the device will support Bluetoooth, Wi-Fi and GPS connectivity all the while housing a pretty large 3200 mAh battery. The Phablet runs Android version 4.3 out of the box and shows to be mostly a stock variation of the OS. ZTE also stated the device would be LTE, CDMA and EVDO ready but made no mention of a GSM/EDGE or HSPA+. The company goes on to mention the handset will “eventually be sold in the US”. So Sprint or Verizon users, you in?
